Alleria, Windrunner

In the valleys of Winterspring, deep within the verdant glades of the Forest of Trees, an elf with the power of the wind makes her home. She joined the Sentinel as a free agent shortly after the War of the Magi. Favored by the Goddess of Wind, Alleria received many blessings. Her arrows fly straight and true, piercing all enemies in a line. She can lace her arrow with wind and bind enemies together by creating ethereal shackles. Her footsteps are hastened by the currents of air. It is known that she can dispatch enemies at blinding speed by releasing a flurry of arrows. She is indeed a worthy enemy of the Scourge.

Power Shot is maxed out first because it works as your killing ability in early game, not being able to deal damage with your normal attack yet. Shackle Shot’s stun looks very attractive, but it is very hard to place especially in early game, since your opponents tend to not stand in armies of creeps. Power Shot on the other hand can be used for farming purposes, too, and you are not made for first blood anyways. One level of windrunner as soon as possible, because it allows you to escape dangerous situations (with Boots of Speed it already gives you maximum movement speed). 100% evasion is great, but you will not benefit from it much, since early game is all about spells. Therefore Shackle Shot is your next aim to support your teammates in ganks. Focus Fire is skipped at level six because your basic damage at that point is pitiful – your opponents will not get seriously injured by your nine attacks, and in most cases you will be killed, or at least have to retreat before you have fired all of them. A level two Focus Fire at level eleven offers you some kills however if used adequately. Windrunner is maxed in midgame, since you need the evasion to survive in team battles and you are able to chase enemies.
Item Build

Starting Items

I recommend to let someone else get a courier, because you are very item dependent and need every penny. Besides some tangos I vary whether to get Boots or Circlets/Branches first, since maximum movement speed will make you survive, but Stats will keep you in the lane. It plays no major role however.

Full Item Build

Boots of Speed and two or three Null Talismans will be all you need to keep you in early to mid game. After getting these I would recommend rushing Lothar’s Edge, since it gives you damage output, attack speed, and what you need most in this point of game: a very powerful escape skill. Lothar’s Edge is no longer an agility item, so you do not pay for anything you do not need. Get Crystalis after Lothar’s Edge to boost your damage for a relatively low price. The critical attacks synergize perfectly with Focus Fire. Power Treads (Intelligence) are the next item, mainly for attack speed to not be too dependent on Focus Fire. Boots of Travel are, in my opinion, just a waste, because you do not benefit of the movement speed bonus (you are not called Windrunner without reason), and Phase Boots look good; cheap, boosting damage and survivability with its armor, but do not work well with Windrunner, and therefore are not recommended. As last item, finish Buriza to become a powerful damage dealer.

Luxury/optional Items

Helm of the Dominator greatly increases your survivability and usually is the first thing I get after completing my item build (sometimes even before finishing Buriza, depending on the situation). The problem for all damage dealers is being disabled, so if you are suffering from that you should consider Black King Bar. However, I only get it when facing multiple mass stunners, since you have nothing disabling or gruesomely fearful, so you have a good chance of not being focused first. If your team needs silence, Orchid is a good alternative for Buriza, since you get all benefits out of the intelligence boost. However, you do not need speed bost badly and crits are better in my humble opinion. Decide for yourself.
Strategy

Early game

You are playing a character that is extremely weak in early game (can be compared to heros like Faceless Void, or Phantom Assassin), so play defensively and focus on farming, not killing. You are a lategame killer, so be sure to reach it equipped. Jungling is an option using creep pulling strategies (you are not able to jungle on your own) since you can use Power Shot to clear trees (be aware that hit creeps will not run to you like using Beastmaster’s axes). You can escape ganks easily by Windrunner, but always assure that you have an escape path.

Mid Game

Your time has not come yet. Assist your team in ganks with Focus Fire and use Power Shot to clear your team’s view if the enemy tries to hide in the forest. With Windrunner and Lothar’s Edge you can scout for your team. Be aware of Sentry Wards and most of all, do not forget to farm your equipment.

Late Game

If the game reaches late game, you are finally a real threat for your opposing team. You can assist pushes by clearing creep waves with Power Shot (aiming at the ranged creeps usually makes you hit the most targets), use Focus Fire to deal massive damage in team battles and use Windrunner to chase fleeing enemies on low health. Since Windrunner’s cooldown is rather low, you can turn it on if focused in team battles, too, not taking physical damage for six seconds (this is a free Omniknight’s ultimate!). Do not get too cocky though; if you draw too much attention stunners and nukers will tear you down pretty easily.

Grid

Grid

Race Driver: GRID

is the latest addition to the TOCA Touring Car series by Codemasters, published and developed by the same company. It was announced on April 19, 2007, and is available for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo DS and PC. The game was released on May 30, 2008 in Europe, June 3, 2008 in North America, and in Australia on June 12, 2008. Despite its release date, as of June 5, 2008, GRID is available in Australia on the Steam digital distribution service.

Gameplay

This game is made by Codemasters, the creators of the TOCA/Race Driver series. GRID is a hybrid between arcade and simulator of mainly tarmac racing that consists of 43 cars. The game features an instant replay feature which allows the player to rewind time by up to 10 seconds. While the instant replay can be used as many times as the player wants, the Flashback feature can only be used a limited number of times, determined by the difficulty setting. A feature similar to what was introduced in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.
There are several types of competitions for different cars: GT races, open wheel races, demolition derbies, etc. There are also several tracks from different countries, including Japan, United States and European tracks such as Le Mans and Spa Francorchamps. A track through the streets of Milan is also available.

Technology

Race Driver: GRID uses Codemasters’ own Ego engine, an evolved version of the Neon engine already used in their previous release Colin McRae DIRT. The damage code has been completely rewritten to allow for persistent damage environments.

Portable version

Firebrand Games, the developers of Race Driver: Create and Race, are developing the game for the Nintendo DS. The game will have 20 circuits, with 25 cars. The game will also included a “Track Design” utility from Create and Race which will allow players to create their own custom circuits and side-road billboards. The portable version will launch in early August.

Demo

On May 8th, 2008, a demo was released on the PlayStation Store and Xbox Live Marketplace. The following day, a PC version was released (which uses Securom for DRM). The demo lets players try two game modes: racing and drifting.
The Demo also features a competition (challenge) to win a BMW 3 series for European based gamers and a chance to win a Ford Mustang for U.S. based players. The competitions for Europeans ended on May 31 at midnight, BST, and for U.S. gamers on May 25, 2008 midnight, ET.

Final Fantasy XIII Comes to The Mobile Platform, and We Have Impressions of Square’s Debut Trailer for The Game.

Agito

Agito

TOKYO-Square Enix showed off a remarkably dense CGI trailer for its upcoming mobile game, Final Fantasy XIII Agito. That’s right, a CGI trailer for a mobile game. Although the game may never see the light of day in the US, Square Enix is certainly throwing a good amount of resources behind it in Japan, as evidenced by its showing today in the Closed Mega Theater at Squeenix’s booth at TGS, where it was sandwiched between trailers for Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy XIII: Versus.

The three Final Fantasy XIII games all apparently tell tales set in different worlds, so it’s difficult to tell how the story told in this trailer will tie in with the other Nova Crystallis games. At first, we see a large amount of wreckage floating in shallow water, underneath a blackened sky. After a few moments, the camera zooms in on the word “Agito” emblazoned on the side of a metal scrap. It’s unclear whether the wreckage is that of a ship or of a city, and whether or not Agito refers to a construction or a place.

Off in the distance, beyond the wreckage, a white city is seen, shining atop a large green mountain. After a series of zooms, the camera resolves on a large cathedral at the top of a hill, which is surrounded by red-robed acolytes. After the camera focuses in on one of them, a blonde-haired boy, he turns around to view the courtyard. Although it was fully populated moments before, his view reveals it to be void of anyone but him.

After he heads inside, he stumbles across a large, floating crystal, suspended above a structure that appears to make it levitate. After activating the device with his thumbprint, the structure starts to glow bright red, and the crystal follows suit. The thumbprint machine then spits out five cards, which the boy spreads out and examines; apparently it’s some sort of fortune-telling device. Unfortunately, before he can do anything more but frown at what’s revealed, the clock atop the cathedral strikes noon, which in turn triggers the explosion of the crystal.

The crystal apparently contained power beyond its small size would indicate, as the entire island is quickly shattered by the explosion, resulting in a towering inferno. Despite the destruction, the last moments of the cutscene return to the cathedral’s innards, where the boy is lying unconscious but apparently unharmed. A few screenshots of the game float by the camera’s view, imprinted on the cards the boy was holding earlier. The last image of the trailer shows a close-up of the boy, who’s lying on the floor as his cell phone rings.

Although precious little of the actual gameplay of FFXIII: Agito was shown in the trailer, we’re still intrigued by the dramatic events of the cinema. As more details are revealed about the game, including news of a possible US release….
